Use Technology in Favor to Improve Your Habits

It is said that it takes 21 days to establish a habit in your life. While this timeframe may vary from person to person, there’s no reason not to adopt positive habits. Creating and sticking to habits can greatly improve our lives and bring us closer to our goals.

In today’s world, technology has become an integral part of our daily lives, often keeping us glued to our screens for long periods of time. This is a natural consequence of the times we live in, and there’s no need to feel judged for it. Whether it’s for business, leisure or personal development, technology has permeated our lives. Rather than demonising it, we can harness its potential for good.

In this article, I would like to talk about some of the healthy habits we can incorporate into our lives by taking advantage of technological advances. By making the most of technology, we can improve our wellbeing and overall quality of life. To that end, my habit is to write on Medium every day.

1. Fitness Tracking

In our case, a sedentary lifestyle is unavoidable. However, we can always find time to exercise, whether it is jogging, running or something less active like stretching.

Fitness and health apps on our smartphones and wearables can be our constant companions on our journey to a healthier lifestyle. Tracking daily steps, heart rate and even sleep patterns can provide valuable insights into our physical activity levels and overall health. These apps can encourage us to set fitness goals, stay motivated and make incremental improvements in our daily routines. Watches are particularly useful for more athletic activities.

2. Mindfulness and Meditation

The best way to do this is to take precious time for our mind. Some breaks from work, getting some fresh air, being in a quiet place, maybe some peaceful music, doing the daily meditation and thinking about the beauty of life are a need for our mental health. We always ignore them or see them as basic and unimportant things, but they are crucial.

Digital mindfulness and meditation apps offer guided sessions that can fit into any busy schedule. These apps offer a range of techniques to help reduce stress, improve focus and increase overall wellbeing. Incorporating a short meditation practice into our daily routine can have a positive impact on our mental health and productivity. With so many apps to choose from, you can find the one that suits you best.

3. Healthy Eating and Meal Planning

There is no doubt that a healthy diet is essential for our wellbeing. But with so many different types of food to choose from, it’s hard to know exactly what’s best for you.

Fortunately, technology has come to the rescue with programmes that can help us make informed decisions about our food choices. There are many healthy recipe, meal planning and nutrition tracking apps available to help us maintain a balanced diet. These apps can introduce us to new nutritious meals, monitor our calorie intake and even cater for specific dietary restrictions or preferences.

4. Sleep Optimization

Sleep, which accounts for a third of our day, plays a significant role in our overall wellbeing. Whether we like it or not (and how could we not?), our sleep cycle has a huge impact on our daily lives. Adequate and restful sleep is essential for both our physical and mental health.

Thanks to technology, we now have access to sleep tracking devices and apps that monitor our sleep patterns. By gaining insight into our sleep quality, we can make the necessary adjustments to improve our sleep hygiene. As a result, we can wake up each day feeling more refreshed and energised.

5. Online Learning

In today’s ever-changing educational landscape, colleges and universities are increasingly embracing online learning. Whether you attend classes physically or digitally, the benefits of online education are growing every year. The key to learning lies in an individual’s discipline and curiosity, rather than the physical location of the learning environment. Participation in online courses can offer greater flexibility of time, audio-visual support, access to a variety of problem-solving methods and opportunities for collaboration. Embracing online learning becomes a rewarding habit that enables self-development in any desired area. Fortunately, a wealth of websites offer academic lessons and course videos taught by experts in their fields, catering to a wide range of interests and passions.

6. Digital Detox and Screen Time Management

Here we come to one of the most difficult situations that most of us can agree on. It’s something I struggle with myself, to be honest. The limits of technology use.

Paradoxically, technology can also help us reduce screen time and disconnect from digital distractions. Various applications monitor screen time and can alert us when we need to take a break from our devices. By setting boundaries and managing our screen time, we can foster a healthier relationship with technology, leading to improved overall wellbeing. Balancing our digital engagement with moments of digital detox helps us to better focus on our lives and work, ultimately improving productivity and focus.

Creating and maintaining habits can indeed be challenging. But remember that life is a collection of mini-habits that we can pause and restart from time to time. By finding the habits that fit our lifestyle and goals, we can gradually build a more fulfilling and balanced life. Embrace the journey of self-improvement and growth, one habit at a time.
