No matter when you decide to start your writing journey, it’s always the right time. There are times when I find myself lacking the motivation to write (and read), and it is during these times that I seek inspiration from my favourite authors to improve my craft.
Among the authors who have had a profound influence on my writing, Ray Bradbury and Stephen King stand out. I highly recommend delving into their books on writing, which are not only guides but also compelling memoirs. These stories offer invaluable insights into their lives, experiences and the relentless pursuit of their passion for writing.
Throughout their works, authors usually share common points of emphasis and unexpected revelations with their unique writing and thinking styles. I’ve taken the liberty of compiling some of their wisdom for you, which I hope will serve as a source of encouragement when you’re feeling low. Let their words brighten your day and revive your writing spirit.

"Fiction is the lie through which we tell the truth." — Albert Camus
“I write for the same reason I breathe — because if I didn’t, I would die.” — Isaac Asimov
"A book must be the axe for the frozen sea within us." — Franz Kafka
"You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you." — Ray Bradbury
"Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration; the rest of us just get up and go to work." — Stephen King
“Write freely and as rapidly as possible and throw the whole thing on paper. Never correct or rewrite until the whole thing is down. Rewrite in process is usually found to be an excuse for not going on. It also interferes with flow and rhythm which can only come from a kind of unconscious association with the material.” ― John Steinbeck
“No passion in the world is equal to the passion to alter someone else’s draft.” ― Herbert George Wells
“The unread story is not a story; it is little black marks on wood pulp. The reader, reading it, makes it live: a live thing, a story.” ― Ursula Kroeber Le Guin
Writing habits undoubtedly vary from person to person. Some writers stress the importance of writing at least 2000 words a day, while others find creative expression in writing poetry on a variety of subjects outside their usual genres. Considering these words and putting them into practice according to our lifestyle and mindset will be the most accurate positioning for our progress in writing.
Witnessing their perspectives and unwavering determination to both create more content and nurture their mental appreciation of writing and reading is truly inspiring. Becoming a better writer is a challenging endeavour, but observing their dedication fuels my own motivation to improve. As a result, I too have committed to writing every day, seeking growth and honing my craft.
